Betty King’ori
I am best described in these six words:
Graduate Mechanical Engineer | Globe Trotter | Super AIESEC-er | Public Speaker| Change-maker | Aspiring President of the Republic of Kenya #2032.
Outside school and work, my hobbies include outdoor activities such as sports where I enjoy playing golf on the weekends and traveling where I have been backpacking through different countries since 2015.
Having gone on an AIESEC Global Volunteer exchange program to Addis Abba, Ethiopia in 2014, I developed a passion for community development and since then I have been volunteering in many organizations. I was the Local Chapter President of AIESEC in JKUAT, where I represented the university in India and Poland at the AIESEC International Congress 2016 and 2017 as a delegate and an organizer. In this role I managed to secure a partnership between AIESEC in JKUAT, Microsoft East and Central Africa and Kids Comp Camp to run a digital literacy program in 8 counties in Kenya that impacted 3500 kids between the age of 8-12, 80% of whom had never seen a computer before.
In October 2017, I co-founded with some of my closest friends an NGO called Volunteers for Kenya. I am currently the Director for Partnerships and in this role, I am tasked with business development and forming of strategic partnerships for sustainable community development projects. As part of my role, I have successfully applied for a license and hosted a TEDx Youth event- TEDx Youth@Parklands, an independently organised TED event in Kenya which targeted youth change makers across the country.
What inspires me in my day to day activities and achievements is my focus, discipline, fearlessness and ambition.
I believe we are the next generation of change for Kenya. I hope that my career can propel me to gain experience worthy of a senior appointment in civil service where I aim to gain public trust that can make me the clear choice when I actualize my goal to run for presidency in 2032.
