Lisa Wanjiru Kimondo
I am a Mechatronic Engineer by training.
I began volunteering way back in high school with a couple of friends where we would come together and visit kids in the KNH cancer ward as well as various children’s homes during the school holidays. I has been a habitual volunteer since then tutoring and mentoring students when I can. I am one of the Co-founders of Volunteers for Kenya (V4K) and Director of Elimisha Project where I work on providing learning opportunities outside the classroom setting thus exposing the recipients of the training to possibilities around them.
In this information age, my inspiration is to expose the less fortunate to the chances that lie before them and equip them with the necessary skills and information that will help them grasp these opportunities. I am an advocate for equal opportunities for all.
My message to Kenyans “‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’ ~ Mahatma Gandhi. Change begins with you and me and it begins with the little things. Sometimes we feel we aren’t old enough, don’t have enough money or know ‘important’ people to make a difference in the world. My advice to aspiring change-makers is to start. No matter how insignificant you might feel the act is, just start and grow from there. It’s the little things that eventually lead to the big change.”
